LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Laparoscopic surgery is the newest innovation in the field of general surgery. With it, the surgeon sees - and operates - inside the body through a small tube connected to a video monitor. When laparoscopic surgery can be performed, it usually means outpatient surgery and a faster patient recovery time. Nanticoke Surgical Associates was the first practice on the Delmarva Peninsula to use laparoscopic techniques for:

• Gallstone surgery (removal of the gall bladder)
• Appendectomy (removal of the appendix)
• Removal of colon cancers
• Anti reflux surgery/repair hiatal hernia
• Hernia surgery

ENDOSCOPY

Endoscopy is the examination of the upper and lower GI tracts with the use of small, flexible cameras attached to a video monitor. Biopsies and removal of some tumors can be done through the endoscope. Our services include:

• Upper endoscopy (EGD)
• Lower endoscopy (colonoscopy)
• Screening exams for colon cancers
• Evaluation and surgical management of GERD (reflux disease)

- Including esophageal pH and manometry testing

BREAST SURGERY

If breast cancer is detected early, there is an excellent chance for a full recovery. Our unique model of patient care for breast patients allows for family participation and extended consultation if needed. Our goal is to educate you fully so you are prepared to deal with all aspects of the care required. Our services include:

• Minimally invasive breast biopsies with ultrasound and x-ray (stereo tactic) guidance
• Lumpectomy and/or mastectomy
• Sentinel lymph node biopsies
• Referral to a plastic surgeon for reconstruction
• Second opinions (you should always have time to consider your options)

VASCULAR ACCESS SURGERY

Vascular access is critical to renal failure patients on dialysis. We are leaders in the Fistula First Program seeking to place native fistulas in all of our patients.
